The game is Teen Love, but what are the rules?
One Saturday afternoon before I headed out to meet my boyfriend at the high school tennis courts, my mom said, “Let him win.” Even though it was before Billie Jean King served Bobby Riggs a massive slice of humble pie, I was stunned. Let him win?! Excuse
me?

Career tips for the 20-somethings: The work angst generation
I spent my twenties obsessing. I’d look at co-workers and friends and think: "They seem to have it so together. How come I’m such a neurotic mess not knowing what I want to do?" I believed there was a perfect job out there with my name on it, but didn’t know how I’d ever find it. Much like romantic love, I thought I would be hit by a bolt of lightning.

Orientation Week
Is your son or daughter’s first week of post secondary education right around the corner? Orientation Week (or Frosh Week) can be daunting, overwhelming and confusing for both parents and students but can also be exciting, fun and tremendously valuable.

Coping with Jitters

As we approach the beginning of a new academic new year, many students will be entering the next stage of education in their personal development. These times can be scary for parents, but for their students, it is the biggest transition they will take towards adulthood.

Frosh Week? It’s Party Time!

Campuses are preparing for a new wave of fresh faces. Peer leaders have been organizing and training for weeks now, campus clubs are preparing for their largest recruitment opportunity, instructors are throwing together their lecture plans, and residences are doing the last of their summer cleaning and repairs.

Fight it With Fitness
University life will offer many temptations for your son or daughter. They are on their own and free to eat what they want, when they want it. They can pile on the portions in the dining hall, eat dinners of french fries and ice cream, and indulge in sugary and salty snacks to fuel late-night study sessions.

Moving in With Roommates?
For many students, the most exciting and scary part about entering university is not the exams, the lectures, the professors, or the new found freedom. It’s the prospect of moving into a new environment surrounded by dozens of peers. Moving into residences can be the first real big experience and transition students entering university face.

Effective Time Management
When students enter university, they enter a host of new responsibilities and difficulties, often occurring in a setting to which they are not accustomed. New friends, new tasks, and a new schooling format can combine to be overwhelming. It is important for students to find ways to manage these challenges effectively.

Extra-Curricular Activities
From music to sports to faith-related activities, universities and colleges have it all. Engaging in extra-curriculars can have significant benefits, from finding new friends to providing much needed relief from studying to general personal development and the pursuit and deepening of interests.

Part-Time Work
The issue that often causes the most tension amongst parents and their student youth’s is financing. When a student hasn’t had the time to build effective budgeting skills, they may find it difficult to balance their personal expenses with saving. This can leave a parent frustrated, as they see a large amount of money being wasted on entertainment or luxury costs.

Safety Resources on Campus
Sending your student off to college or university can be a scary experience. Not being able to keep track of where they are, and when they return home sends some parents for a loop. Luckily, campuses are equipped with tools to ease parents’ apprehension.
